The Cosmetic Lens: Korres, A Greek Skincare Company

Korres: Where Greek Heritage Meets Modern Skincare Innovation

While scrolling on social media, I came across a Greek skincare and cosmetics brand called Korres. It immediately caught my attention, as I’m Greek myself, and I was curious to see how their product line reflects Greek values and heritage.

The founders, Giorgos and Lena Korres, created the brand with the goal of using natural and organic Greek ingredients that are unique to Greece, but it doesn’t stop there. What I found most compelling about the company is their commitment to overseeing every stage of the product development process. According to Giorgos, they select the seeds for the herbs used in their products, source them through partnerships with organic farmers, formulate the products in-house, and manage all branding internally. This end-to-end involvement makes the brand feel highly curated and intentional, with a strong sense of coherence across both product and storytelling.

On their website, they note that this level of internal control did not come easily. In order to maintain quality and efficacy, they developed the KORRES 6 Labs Sustainability Circle, which includes the Formulation Lab, Soil Lab, Extraction Lab, Molecular Lab, Design Lab, and Recycle Lab. I find myself increasingly in awe of the brand as I learn more about it. These labs allow them to source ingredients sustainably, formulate clean and effective products, explore new ingredients through molecular research, and design packaging that is both artistic and environmentally conscious.

The brand’s ethos is “Skincare that cares for people, traditions, and the environment.” I think this really comes through when looking at their product line and the work they do beyond cosmetics. Their offerings include skincare sets, pure Greek olive nourishing oils, and a Greek yogurt probiotic cream line, among others.

The Greek yogurt probiotic gel cream particularly stood out to me because it incorporates a staple Greek food in a way you would never expect to see in skincare. According to their website, the Greek Yogurt Cooling Gel Cream was the first product developed in their Formulation Lab, inspired by the traditional use of yogurt to soothe sunburned or stressed skin. I can only imagine how challenging it must have been to stabilize yogurt in a way that preserves its benefits while also making it shelf-stable for cosmetic use. Another thing I find incredible is that their products are free from parabens, silicones, mineral oil, propylene glycol, and many other ingredients commonly used in cosmetic products. I think it is admirable that the company prioritizes creating clean formulations without compromising on quality or efficacy.

Beyond formulation, I also find their sustainability efforts especially impressive. Korres places a strong emphasis on responsible sourcing, biodiversity, and reducing environmental impact throughout their production process. Through initiatives like their Recycle Lab and partnerships with local Greek farmers, the brand works to minimize waste and promote regenerative agricultural practices. This commitment highlights key guiding principles of the brand that go beyond marketing. They reflect long-term investments in preserving both the land and the ingredients that define their products. . Overall, Korres feels like a brand that is not only rooted in Greek tradition, but also actively working to protect and sustain it for the future.

To me, their brand feels like an intersection of many of my interests: cosmetics, culture, and environmental sustainability. It is really inspiring to see a brand that brings these passions together so seamlessly, and I would love to learn more about how they continue to innovate in this space.
